Rock Creek lies in an area of the southern Sierra Nevada known as the Mono Recesses, four drainages dropping steeply into Mono Creek Valley from the south. The area is characterized by many peaks, streams and lakes perfect for back country adventure throughout the year.
The terrain is ideal for spring skiing and is famous for its fishing in the summer and fall.
Rock creek drainage and road is most easily reached on the eastern slope of the sierra from the turn off for Tom's Place on Highway 395.
There are few places as great from which to begin a wilderness excursion.
